Sophia's Big Day!

Despite having celebrated Sophia's real birthday in San Francisco, there was no denying her a first birthday party! We invited just a few of the people in Soph's life and planned a very simple shindig! Michelle and Aunt Claudia decorated the house, we served a big pot of spaghetti, opened presents - and the highlight of the day . . . Sophia dug into her cake! A really nice day!

The birthday girl looked adorable in pigtails and a brown and white checkered onesie!

Grandma Vargas and Aunt Claudia visited for the weekend - Soph was in her glory!

Sophia was a gracious guest - spending time with everyone, eating her mom's spaghetti without spitting any out, showing interest in not only her presents but also the paper and ribbons they were wrapped in and last, but far from least, leaving at least half the cake for her guests to enjoy.

I hadn't intended to let Soph dig her hands into the cake, but after we blew out the candle, there seemed to be a spark of interest on her part as she beheld the beauty!

So I figured, what the heck! It started innocently - just a finger lightly touching the frosting . . . followed by her right hand . . . then the left. When she threw her foot up on the table in the direction of the cake, it was time to remove Sophia from the sweets.

Lucky for her, she took away handfuls of frosting - which she certainly didn't let go to waste. Her hands have never been licked so clean!

Happy First Birthday Party Soph!
