Easter Sunday

Our 2009 Easter was by far the best we've had since I've lived in Mexico! Unfortunately, the holiday has become a bit tainted by living in a "spring break" town as it becomes infested by beer-guzzling youngsters who seem to have a different way to celebrate the special weekend. But this year, with Sophia on board, we realized we needed to celebrate so that this holiday is about much more for her than the bar-hopping teens she will unfortunately associate with Easter week.

The day began as usual - morning play, diaper-bag prep, struggling (still) to get three of us dressed and ready on time! Fortunately, Sophia took a quick pre-church nap which helped Pablo and I actually make it out the door a few minutes early!

We picked up Michelle on the way and got to church before the singing had started - record timing for us! For those of you who don't know, our church is one in spirit, not so much in the physical building. The beautiful and grand churches on the corners of PV's plazas all belong to the Catholic tradition that rules most of Mexico, so smaller, non-Catholic congregations are usually born from missions. Our church is awesome. Services are held in a building right off the main street - it isn't fancy and we sit in folding chairs, but there is a feeling of community and inclusive worship. Church vans pick up families from poorer neighborhoods who wouldn't otherwise be able to attend, and the group embraces everyone - from the poorest in ripped jeans to the rich American tourist who wants to worship on vacation.

Soph got snatched up by the young girls - this photo is kind of like "Where in the World is Waldo" except that you are looking for Sophia in the gaggle of youngsters!

After church, we headed to Michelle's house for Easter brunch - just the four of us! We had a fantastic time!

Sophia searched for her Easter basket (and um, Easter presents) - all courtesy of her adopted Easter bunny (her Tia Michelle). She actually spotted one hidden under the coffee table as she chewed on one of the house decorations, literally dropped the decoration and sped on her hands and knees as fast as she could to check out the basket! So cute!

She also got a super duper walker - perfect timing as she has been working on her first steps!

We played, ate brunch and played some more! When Soph crashed, we played some cards, ate some leftover brunch (ok, I think only I did - but whatever!) and enjoyed the day!

Michelle made an awesome Easter brunch - she posted the recipe on her blog so check it out if you are in the mood for a great breakfast! Yummmy! It's making me hungry now - go figure.

Happy (belated) Easter! He is Risen!
