A Favorite Moment

Sarcasm.

Not sure if you can tell or not, but this is me washing the wall.

Yes, when people laugh as you tell them you're having a boy and constantly comment on how different it is to change their diapers, take heed. I have been peed on more in Jake's two weeks of life than in Sophia's entire childhood. Luckily for me on this particular day, he aimed right past me and hit the wall instead. I'd rather be washing the wall down than changing my shirt!

A Final Hurrah!

Just days before Jake was born, Pablo and I took Soph to ride the carousel inside our mall. She loves it and hadn't been on it for a longgggg time! Little did she know that these were her final moments as an only child!!!

With the exception of . . .

. . . a slightly different nose and Jake's complete and utter lack of eyelashes, I'd say Baby Soph and Baby Jake look pretty much the same!

What a week it was . . .

Last Tuesday night Jake turned one week old (yes, I've been meaning to post this for several days and now just getting around to it, but better late than never). And what a first week it was. He's pretty much the only member of this family that escaped unscathed. The rest of us were a mess.

My experience with his birth and the c-section had its bumps along the way thanks to the very endearing nursing staff at the hospital (which I will write about later in the story of his birth) and it caused a few extra days of good ole surgery pain that I wasn't quite expecting (or wanting, for that matter)!

By Thursday afternoon we were home from the hospital and the next two days were Ouch, Ouch and Ouch.

By Saturday evening, I was feeling high on life again - the extra Ouches were on their way out, we had a sweet new baby in the house and our mild state of chaos was at least tolerable!

By Sunday morning, we were at our pediatrician's office as Soph woke up magically with pink eye.

By Sunday night, I was in the emergency room after eight hours of extreme dizziness and ringing ears as my blood pressure spiked to sky-high levels.

By Monday night, Pablo was dead in bed with a respiratory infection.

And then it was Tuesday. One week since the arrival of our baby boy. Fortunately, there were some good moments along the way.

A very tired (but happy) family!

Jake got the infant blood tests taken and looked really sweet with his little hand bandaid!

A first bath!

And then Soph jumped in!

Sleepin'

And more sleepin'

Gettin' some serious lovin' from the whole family!

5 p.m. and All is Calm

The most peaceful moment of the day.

Sophia, Meet Jake.

We arrived home yesterday early afternoon following some havoc at the hospital (which I'm sure I'll find time to write about next year at some point), and we're starting to get settled in at the house. It feels really nice to be home - no more nosy nurses or nurses who flash the bright lights on at 3am or nurses who forget what time you need pain meds or nurses who are just plain irritating. (Rachel, I would LOVE you as a nurse, but the nurses I happened to have were plain ole crappy and when I DO explain what happened, you'll understand, so don't take the nurse comment personally. I think nurses rock. Just not the ones specifically attending to room 102 at San Javier Hospital on Feb 22- 24. Whew!)

Anyhoo, before we came home, Soph made a trip to the hospital to visit us! She was really sweet and curious about the baby and wanted to help as much as she could!

Since we've been home, she seems to be extra whimpery, bouncing between excitement and tears constantly, but we're doing our best to give her extra attention and hugs!

And a couple of the little guy:
